Middle school
Last week Myra and I went to the middle school orientation at the school she is to attend next year. She was not pleased and told me she had already been to middle school orientation already last year. She started middle school in Virginia and attended for a little more than a month. Then we moved to Utah. Where they have elementary school up through 6Th grade. Myra went back to elementary school. She liked it too! Now she is concerned about going to middle school again... No it isn't the locker thing, she has that figured out, it isn't even changing classes, they have a whole 5 MINUTES to get to their next class. The thing that distresses her the most is LOCK DOWN. During the month she attended middle school they had 2 lock downs at the school and one lasted until late in the evening. She was unable to get home til 10:30 one night due to a criminal being chased and cornered in the neighborhood behind her school. Her other concern was bomb threats. In VA sometime they were real and sometimes they were just a prank, But the schools took them serious every time. The police did too and the person who called as a prank would be prosecuted. So during the 1st month between 2 different middle schools there were 6 bomb calls. 4 of those were at Rachael's school and the school would just deal with it quietly most of the time, but get the kids out of the school and home as soon as possible. So Myra and I asked the guidance counselor here if they had ever had a lock down? No, but they are suppose to have lock down drills. Have they ever had a bomb threat? WHAT? No, they have not. See I told Myra it will be a totally different middle school experience here. She felt a bit better...I think it helped she saw all here friends from her present class!
