Radon DONE!

Hey we had the Radon Dude here all day today! He is a cool New Yorker who spent his drive across country 13 years ago trying to practice his speech and drop his accent. He did amazingly well, the only time I heard an accent was went he said talk which is best described as a "Tw auu k". He said he can only go so far to loose the new YAUKER inside. He has lived in Utah for 2 years. He lived in Oregon for 11 before that. Anyway, my exciting life! We now have another hole in our basement, and a vacuum with giant white pvc pipes (securely attached to the walls) going from the hole, out of the side of my house, to a fan that sucks air up and sends it through a 3X4 inch "drain" pipe to the top of the house where a net is placed over the top and it is suppose to spew the harmful radon gases into the atmosphere where they will dissapate and become what ever. We are going to allow the house to "rest for 24 hours and then they will be taking a new reading to see if their efforts were successful or if WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE! (As Bruce says) I got to pay $150. dollars for this priviledge. The sellers had the priviledge of paying $1200.00. The $1350. was the best price I could get for the size of the house. Prices have gone up, it was only $900.00 dollars 12 years ago when we had to do it in New Jersey. Our house is 2 1/2 times the size but oh well. Radon is a gas that can cause cancer. New Jersey has really high rates of cancer and Radon, so we have always tested for it. And we are grateful we have. My mom has even wondered if she has it at her house in CA. Maybe that could be why my pop died of lung cancer after never smoking.... Makes ya think. So now I have this really huge fan outside the house just below the powder room bathroom which may only become an issue if we ever get a recreational vehicle to park in that spot. Oh of course that spot is presently blocked by out mountain of packing boxes and papers. The movers said maybe tomorrow they could pick those boxes up but I won't count on it til it really happens.... The radon action distressed my Holly today so she and I spent the day reading books by the fireplace. It really was a rather nice thing to do. After she went to sleep, I cut out my dress for next week and my man's tie. We have a work Christmas party to attend. They have a 42"tv as a door prize, I wonder where we will put it? My Man is a good luck charm...
