color

I had a discussion with one of my daughters the other day. She was talking about things she heard at school and how "racist" her class mates were. She was really surprised that they would all be scared of black guys. She noticed that they probably felt that way because they weren't used to seeing people with different skin. She said that before she moved out West she never noticed what color people were. When she went back to VA to visit she realized whites were actually in the minority. But growing up that way she had not cared what color people were or what nationality they were. They were her friends. It is sad that ignorance makes people choose to be afraid. I kinda miss the multi-cultural neighborhoods....

When Seth was in headstart.[.the token white kid,] one day he came home and was trying to tell me about a boy..but didn't know his name and said," you know..the chocolate one " It took me the longest time to realize the director was black..!Such an Awesome lady !

i grew up the same way of noticing color or problems from anybody not white. part of it was my parents not being racist and part was being in military schools where everyone is equal and they thought the same.
however after living most of my life here int he south, i have noticed reverse racism happening to me and my family.
Reguardless i still try to teach my kids to give everyone a fair chance based on their actions. i am so glad that i come from a family who does look under the outside.
